Q: I’ve been working doing artisan work, but I’ve never had the chance to sit a trade test. Where should I start?

You qualify for what the government calls: Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). You can register at the National Institute for Artisan Development on an NQF registered artisan trade qualification in order to gain artisan recognition.

You will need to work for a pre-determined period of time on a single RPL contract that ends in a trade test. The RPL contract will guide you in compiling a portfolio that is assessed prior to your undergoing the trade test.
