Louise Nair has replaced Leo Chetty who acted as CEO and chairman at Educor. Chetty, who led the takeover bid of the group from Naspers in November 2007, has resigned as chairman and become an ordinary board member to free him up to focus on strategic alliances, the expansion of the business and investment opportunities. Nair is the daughter of educational expert, G K Nair. She was educated in KwaZulu Natal and graduated with a Bachelor of Accounting from the University of Durban Westville and later obtained a higher diploma in accounting from the University of KwaZulu Natal. This was followed by a specialist auditing course, APT certificate from the University of Cape Town and later a diploma in Pastel Accounting among other courses. Before being employed at Educor she was worked as Group Treasury and Tax Accountant at Grindrod Limited. Louis also worked for South African Port Operations as acting financial manager, as well as Ernst and Young, the Office of the Auditor-General and Deloitte and Touche. She joined Educor in January 2008 as Chief Financial Officer. Educor represents: Damelin, Damelin Correspondence, Intec College, Lyceum College, CitiVarsity, ICESA Education Services and Millennia Graduate School of Business. In 2008 it had 230 000 registered students serviced by more than 1 000 staff in 50 offices. Louise points to significant achievements since she joined as "a reduction in losses from R40m when the group was bought in November 2007 to a present loss, despite trying financial circumstances globally of just R8m."
Louise says this has been achieved by everyone in the group "working harder, trimming costs, improved efficiencies and minimal retrenchment." She predicts stable earnings for the present year.
