Cape Town, June 2010 – The month of June marks the intrepid protests lead by youth 34 years ago for the right to a better education, an indelible act that catalysed the socio-political transformation of South Africa. Today’s youth, if armed with the better education their fore runners sought as well as with entrepreneurial skills, will lead the economic transformation of Southern Africa. This is according to Anthony Farr, CEO of the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation.

The NMG Consultants and Actuaries Internship Programme is aimed at providing graduates with the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to bridge the gap between tertiary and the world of work.

The Executive Mayor of the Mopani District Municipality in Giyani, Limpopo, Joshua Matlou, is giving away bursaries to students from poor backgrounds and those with disabilities in the district.

“These bursaries will be awarded to learners who have passed Grade 12 with a Bachelor Admission and who wish to further their studies in civil engineering, quantity surveying and construction in the engineering field; food management, animal science, plant production and soil science in the agricultural field; and accounting sciences and internal auditing in the sciences management field,” said Matlou.

As part of the “In-Country / In-Region Scholarship Programme”, in which more than two dozen African universities and university networks participate and which annually supports some 800 African postgraduates, DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) in partnership with the National Research Foundation (NRF) is able to offer scholarships for postgraduate studies at South African universities.
