The Department of Justice & Constitutional Development requires the services of legal interns for a period of 12 months within the following centres:

Johannesburg (4) Pretoria (2) Cape Town (4) Durban (3) Port Elizabeth (3) Bloemfontein (3) Mafikeng (2) Northern Cape (2) Mpumalanga (2) Limpopo (2) Pietermaritzburg (1) Newcastle (1) George (1) Worcester (1) Mthatha (1) East London (1)

Stipend: R3000 per month.

Requirements:

• An appropriate four-year legal degree or LLB
• A valid diver’s license would be an advantage
• Recent graduates are encouraged to apply

Duties:

• Perusal of new pleadings (daily function of perusing summons notices of motion and related pleading to check for aspects that may not be in the best interests of the children in the matter)
• Conduct legal research as requested by the family Advocate towards court and report preparation.
• Deal with queries and requests for information by members of the public
• Handle general correspondence
• Conduct parental information workshops (under supervision of the Family Advocate)
• Conduct mediations between disputing parties (only after being capacitated to do so).
