Background

The National Credit Regulator (NCR) was established as the regulator under the National Credit Act 34 of 2005 (the Act) and is responsible for the regulation of the South African credit industry. It is tasked with carrying out education; research; policy development; registration of industry participants, (i.e. credit providers, credit bureaux and debt counsellors); investigation of complaints, and enforcement of the Act. The Act requires the Regulator to promote the development of an accessible credit market; particularly to address the needs of historically disadvantaged persons, low income persons, and remote, isolated or low density communities. The NCR invites applications from suitable candidates to apply for the following positions based in Midrand:


The National Credit Regulator is committed to addressing the country’s skills shortage and to assist young people in acquiring skills that will secure them employment; whether it is in the banking sector, or other regulatory environments.

The NCR is looking for dynamic, self motivated individuals who intend to enter into learnerships as:

• Legal Advisors

• Complaints Officers

• Inspectors

• Junior Bookkeepers

• Human Resource Generalists

• Industry Analysts

• Debt counselling Monitoring Officers

• Compliance/Registrations Officers

The NCR learnerships are focused on the development of unemployed graduates who have completed the following degrees:

• LLB

• BCom (Accounting, Economics or Statistics)

• Forensic investigation or related degree

• Credit Management

• Candidates who hold a post graduate qualification in

• Compliance Management or Monitoring will also be considered

• Human Resource Management and Accounting or other Finance related degree


The graduates must have completed their studies between 2008 and 2009. The learnership programme is administered in conjunction with BANKSETA (The Banking Sector Education & Training Authority). Learners will be required to enter into a 12-month contract with the NCR. A monthly stipend will be paid to the learners for the duration of the contract.
