The University of Cape Town offers a pre-admissions career councelling service at the UCT Development Centre, based on Upper Campus in Cape Town. The service is aimed at school leavers and those who are considering applying for a university degree. Their priority is to assist potential UCT applicants, but in some circumstances counsel learners who do not qualify for a Matric exemption. The councelling is aimed at helping students explore their career development path, and make informed decisions based on their own assessment of their needs and interests. With a career adviser, the student can discuss various options, and manage their own study choices. By taking responsibility for their own study path, students learn how essential life management skills. The interviews are conducted by UCT Career Services staff and experienced councellors in various educational institutions. The service fee is R250 for pre-admissions councelling and this covers the initial one hour interview and an information pack which includes a self-assessment questionnaire and reading material.
