The University of the Free State (UFS) is in Bloemfontein, the capital of the Free State. Established in 1904, UFS is a multicultural, bilingual institution, serving more than 25 000 students, with 1 500 students currently at its Qwaqwa campus. The university has six faculties offering a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. UFS has a high number of research and exchange agreements with internationally recognised institutions, contributing towards a diverse, mutually beneficial international culture within the framework of research, teaching and community service. In 2006, UFS was appointed the national training provider for the Jobs for Growth Programme – an initiative that forms part of the Accelerated and Shared Growth Initiative for South Africa (Asgisa).
